Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.
I remember the picture in one of my Sunday School rooms of Jesus standing at a door without a doorknob and my teacher telling us that the door could only be opened from the inside.
Sunday in church, Dr. Crutchley's sermon reminded me of this strong image and verse from my childhood. He asked us to think about ways that we hear Jesus knocking. I think that Jesus knocks often and he never tires of knocking. Sometimes we can't hear him above the noise we are making in our lives but he still knocks. And we must let him in. He will never force his way. I am thankful for the times that I do hear him knock.
