Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
Many times I have claimed this promise for strength to move ahead in hard times. But I had never really seen an eagle in flight in the wild. I have seen them at various nature shows at theme parks and zoos, but I didn't think I would ever see a "real" one - one that was not being trained or held captive. Before photography I am not sure I would have even looked. Last week while we were camping at Douglas Dam I saw my first eagles in the wild.
On our first night we had walked down to the tailwaters of the dam to watch the blue herrons that feed there when the turbines are turned off and the water is low. While we were there another photographer came by. I asked if he got any good shots and he said that he didn't see the eagles this time. After a little conversation he showed me where he had seen the eagles before. Early the next morning I looked up at the tree he showed me and there they were - What an amazing sight - real eagles, two of them. I watched one fly down to the river and catch a fish. I got out my camera and starting taking pictures. I don't really have a long lens and they were across the river so I didn't really get up close pictures.
The rest of the time we were camping, I would look up at the tree where the photographer told me to look. I saw them many more times. One time I think there must have also been juvenile birds because they kept flying around the two larger eagles. The smaller birds were making circles around the big eagles, like they were learning to fly.
Seeing the eagles was amazing. I would have never known to look for the eagles unless the photographer had told me where to look. Reading and knowing God's word helps us to know where to look to see beautiful things and live our daily lives. And like the photographer who took the time to tell me about the eagles, I want to take the time to look in God's word and learn to soar on wings like eagles.
Here are the rest of the pictures that I took of the eagles. They aren't the best since I don't have a really long lens.
