The copy in the picture was given to me by my husband for our anniversary. We don't usually buy each other gifts so this was a complete and wonderful surprise. I have loved looking at it. The other item in the picture is my camera, which has become for me a way that God speaks to me and show me his Word. I took this picture with my new Fujifilm mirrorless camera, a camera that has interchangeable lens and lets you control your picture like a DSLR by setting the aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Unlike a DSLR in which you look through a prism and a mirror to see through the lens, in a mirrorless camera you look through an electronic viewfinder instead of the lens. The result is a camera that is MUCH lighter weight but still takes high quality pictures. I knew that the first picture I would take with this camera would be these two special parts of my life - God's written word and God's world that I see through my camera.
I am learning to use my new camera and the things it can and can not do. It has a little learning curve. I really enjoy it, but I also love my DSLR for the things it can do. Each camera will serve a different purpose for me. The Fujifilm is light enough to always carry around with me to capture unexpected beauty. My DSLR will be something that I must plan carefully to use and be willing to carry the weight. I thought it was kind of like different versions of the scripture. There is so much to learn from each version. Sometimes I just want to read the scriptures, sometimes I want to study a commentary, sometimes I want to see the images of the St. John's Bible - God will teach me different things with each version. Sometimes I want to have the detail, sharpeness, and image quality of my DSLR and sometimes I just want to go light and take my "little" camera. I pray God will use my camera to show me his world and his word.
I am so grateful for the gift of the Bible and the gift of my cameras and the way that God has shown me his beauty through the many versions of his Word that we have. One of my favorite verses reminds me that if I want to see God's word - either through the Bible or my camera - that I must seek
Psalm 27:4 One thing have I asked the Lord, that I will seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.
